How to Protest Tax on Houses (Reason Why Taxes Are High)

Do you feel like you’re paying too much tax on houses or other properties you have? Is there a way you can protest it?

I've been reading a lot about real estate taxes. For the last couple of weeks or so, here in San Antonio, we've been getting our new assessment for 2022 for real estate taxes.

The appraised value of our homes after the crazy market that we've had prices went up.

My particular home went up over $120,000, which in essence brought my bill up to $5,000 a year.

And for me that's ridiculous. That is a lot of money!

HOW TO PROTEST TAXES

In this series, I'm going to talk about how to protest taxes.

Obviously, there are ways to hire specialists who can protest property taxes for you, and they don't get paid unless they get to lower your tax bill.

And then from that amount, it will be computed on how they’ll get paid.

There are online ways also where you can protest your taxes yourself.

REAL ESTATE MARKET

The reality is that here in San Antonio, market prices went up right around 25% compared to last year.

But in other cities like Austin, prices went up to 50%.

The city is trying to come up with a way to offset the high prices that homes have been selling for how to correlate that to the tax bill.

As we all know, the reality is that when the tax on houses is collected, keep in mind that schools, roads, and hospitals, among many others, actually survive because of our taxes.

And I'm not saying that we shouldn't pay any taxes.

That is one way the city has to acquire funds so that they can provide services and help.
